EV Proficiencies

How I have demonstrated....
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to problem solving
    • Evidence: Policy and Science Regarding NO2 Regulations
    • Reflection: Using Scientific reasoning to conclude an approach to policy decisions. If you only look at part of the science, it could lead to faulty policy-making, so it is important to be able to fully understand the science behind policy decision making.
  • Understanding my connection to the environment
    • Evidence: Ecofootprint
    • Reflection: This demonstrated to me how much my lifestyle affects the earth and helped remind me to do everything I can to reduce at least my own personal impact on the earth and hopefully portray to others how important this is becuase living sustainably is only effective if there is a mass movement toward it.
  • Reading and critically evaluating environmental literature
    • Evidence: Research Proposal
    • Reflection: Evaluating previous academic research articles to hone in on local issues of broader topics.
  • Written Communication
    • Evidence:  Wind Energy Proposal
    • Reflection: In this paper, I aim to convince Congress to support the Wind Energy Industry. I address key concepts including Environmental Management Systems, Ecosystems Management, Adaptive Management, The Precautionary Principle, Distributed Generationi, Cost Internalizationi, Subsidies, Deregulation, and Public Choice Theory/Agency Taking while in the framework of Wind Energy Policy.
  • Oral Communication
    • Evidence: Fertilizer Emissions Presentation
    • Reflection: After doing a lab experiment and model for the greenhouse gas emissions measured from soil treated with anhydrous ammonia, pig manure and compost separately, a classmate and I presented on the topic.
  • Qualitative Reasoning Skills
    • Evidence: Nuclear is Not the Answer for the Pending Energy Bill
    • Reflection: After a week-long field trip speaking with people whose lives have been affected by uranium mining as well as a uranium mining company, I wrote this op-ed to spread the stories of the people I had learned from.
  • Quantitative Reasoning Skills
  • Critical Thinking
    • Evidence: Cooperation is the Key to Mother Nature's Heart
    • Reflection: There are several different narratives regarding how to manage our land, however, we must work together, despite our differences in opinion, if we wish to protect our land and the people living on it.
  • "Field" Skills
    • Evidence: Lake Powell
    • Reflection: We collected Hydrologic data on the Colorado River upstream and downstream of Lake Powell including suspended sediment loads and flow rate. We used this data to make mathematical models using Stella
  • Sense of Place
    • Evidence:
    • Reflection
